Uncle Armand and the Mass

This is how I remember my brother in law, with a smile and a deep affection for family. So I was at mass today and remembered him with a smile. Why? Because changes in the way mass had been said for so many post Vatican years irritated him immensely. Perhaps he wasn’t a theologian, but he knew his religion. It doesn’t matter that he avoided the new mass. There were things wrong with it, things most of the people in the pew adjusted to or ignored. After all, the Church makes decisions on liturgy. Yet Armand complained fiercely over loose translations; wordings that would possibly even invalidate the mass. His largest concern was the rewording of the consecration.  

Here are both the old loose translation and the new accurate translation (from Latin, of course). Perhaps they do not seem too different to you; but just “This is the Lamb of God” is a statement and “Behold the Lamb of God” is a command, the differences in the wording of the consecration is very large.
