The family picture wall in our dome home is a bit lopsided. Ancestors from Germany fill most of it. That’s because the Indonesian family pictures are in albums that weren’t accessible until our son Paul got them from his Aunt Yvonne so he could scan some photos. Here is the paternal family from Indonesia.

These are the parents of Walter Bogaardt's mother, Bertha Breuer Bogaardt. Oma Pony has no surname since she was an Indonesian native.
Unfortunately there is no photoshop program on this computer. The above photo is a wedding picture of Opa and Oma. In the picture is Opa's father, Ernest (he is the second from left blond dutchman) Next to him is "Tante" Frieda (not a real aunt, just a good friend) who painted the picture of Oma Pony that hangs in our house.

Hello Eva, is the person you refer to as 'opa' in fact Walter Bogaard? Or could it be Charles Armand Bogaardt? They both were sons of Charles Ernest Bogaardt and his wife Bertha right? Charles Ernest Bogaardt from Vista California was in fact my grandmothers uncle. We've never seen pictures of her family Bogaardt because she grew up as an orphan.

Opa is Charles Ernest Bogaardt, formerly from Vista, California. He passed away about ten years ago. His wife, Bertha Breuer Bogaardt just celebrated her 99th birthday. She is well, although she cannot talk.
DeleteCharles Bogaardt's sisters are pictured above. One is named Marie. She raised Charles.
Armand Bogaardt never married. He too has passed away. Walter Bogaardt married Eva Woelk and has raised nine children with her.
Yvonne Bogaardt is pictured in the wedding photo above married. Together with her husband Ronald Dumas she raised three children, Liza, Roger, and Joyce. Only Liza is pictured above.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your reply. My grandparents (Teddy Kessler + Jeanette Doppert) raised 11 childeren. My mom (being first born) was named after her grandmother 'Ernestine'. Grandmom Jeanette passed away in 2000. Since then I started my search. Blogs like these help me a lot!

One of the Bogaardt's, Dolly Gerarda Bogaardt, was my father's first wife. He married first in Soerabaja on 6th February 1929 (divorced Batavia Indonesia on 17th September 1929) to Dolly Gerarda Bogaardt,born Modjokerto (near Surabaya) 3 apr. 1904 , dr.of Ernest Theodoor Bogaardt and the native woman Kassirah . He later married in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, on 7th November 1929 Gertruda Catharina Geutjes. They returned shortly thereafter to Surabaya in the Dutch East Indies now Indonesia, where three children were born; Karin, Jan and me, Gerard. When I was born in 1940 the family moved to Malang from where we were in 1942 interned by the Japanese, but we as a unit all dsurvived, although other family members lost their lives. Silenced Voices by Inez Hollander portriats our war experiences.

to Julius Breuer and Marianne Louise Breuer (maiden name Steinfort)

I think i saw it at my Aunts house once.

ReplyDeleteCorrect.The Vanderhydes are also part of the Bogaardt family. It appears that Theo Vanderhyde is the son of Charles Vanderhyde, Marie's son (she was Charles Ernest Bogaardt's sister). Charles Vanderhyde has passed away leaving three children, Theo, Charlie and Louise and several grandchildren. The Vanderhyde's might be able to provide more family information from Charles Bogaardt's ancestral line.

ReplyDeleteThese are great pictures. I just found this website and hope you're still monitoring it. My grandfather was Maurits Breuer one of Francisus and Ponny's sons. My grandparents immigrated from Holland to America (Ohio) in the 50's, I believe. This is great to find.

Hi Renee! My grandmother was your aunt Bertha. I remember Oma Berta (Breuer) talking about her brother Maurits and her other 4 brothers (I think there were 5 brothers and her). She would share stories about them playing kick the can on the way to school along the railroad tracks. Oma Berta and her husband Charles Bogaardt immigrated to America in the 50's, too. First stop was Covington, Kentucky then on to California.
