Spring

Spring has sprung
The weeds have, too.
The gophers grub at roots.
The driveway wants an overhaul,
The weather calls for boots.
The fruit trees scream
Come make some jam;
The horses hunt for greens,
The piglet whistles
For her food and
For a cage that’s clean.
Work never ends
Inside or out
Whether its sun or rain
It’s time to clip and mow and rake,
Dig up, replant, and tame.
In no time short, with spade in hand
The yard will change its mood
And all the planting of new seed
Will turn into free food.
